Series of levels lead into extensive mine system. Quarries for fine grade industrial sand from sandstone further down the hillside have also broken into levels. Just inside one entrance a series of prominent yellow arrows marked out a circular tour. For guidance it beats the lengths of string normally found. The rock carries some good fossils in places but little remains of the accompanying buildings. The drainage level for the area discharges at about NGR NS 938 590. Another drainage level discharging to the Mouse Water at NGR NS 949 532 drains most of the Forth/Wilsontown area. Parking is at a layby on the A706, with a half km walk-in along a green track, presumably laid during mining although stone was removed by rail from the site.

Several shake holes have been recorded in this region by the Ordnance Survey. Quarries near this region are operated by Messrs. Industrial Sands Ltd., and these have exposed old levels belonging to a lime company which formerly controlled the site. The shake holes, which are in the vicinity of NGR NS 938 582, are probably connected with an underground drainage system which it is felt has been tapped by an old collapsed drainage level that discharges a considerable volume of water at NGR NS 938 593. A small burn nearby on Miller's Moss discharges underground. The resurgence which is likely to connect to the Woodmuir Burn has not yet been traced.
