I've said it before, and will do so again no doubt - you lot on this forum are a smart lot - ICLOK made a brilliant point about kids, and hobbies etc - similar to my comment about getting them involved in minerals etc at school..amazing how pollies can't pick it up...
It relates too to things like the Caldbeck Fells - I met a warden up there the other day... (We'd just constructed a drain to try and drop water levels in one entrance, and stop the hillside blowing away another entrance they've blocked - I thought he'd arrest me on the spot- I was surrounded with bits of timber and pickaxes etc - but he was positively encouraging) who blew my mind.. I lamented the fact that the LDNP had stopped collecting, mine access etc., and he nearly blew his top - said he was trying to get them to allow kids to ride mountain bikes and collect, and go down mines - because, as he pointed out - isnt that what recreation is all about - enjoying the countryside in all its forms... Turns out he is the youngest ranger (at 50) and blames a lot of the problems on what he calls nimbys - not in my backyard - all of whom are apparently well over 60, and should stay in their little townhouses.
Mmm - sorry - might be a bit off topic - but .. :offtopic:
