The final chapter is under way in the mining history of Tower Colliery in south Wales.

The deep pit in the Cynon Valley closed four years ago, but work has started nearby to remove coal from what will become one of the biggest opencast mines in the UK.

They have been doing a hell of a lot of work on the opencast site for the past year or so - always busy there.

They must just have been readying the site for the opencast.

Good on em - they deserve it. I was fortunate to be shown around Tower last year, they were just putting the final plans together regarding the opencast. Brilliant bunch of blokes.

Tower was a story of success-after the workers bought out from -British coal? or was it RJB??

Should aditnow members consider all chipping in a few quid and buying out our own mines and following suit???

probably not.

The mine was bought by the workers lead by Tyrone O'Sullivan (God by any other name) and is now run by a firm on their behalf

The worker buy-out was from British Coal.
