About 40 years ago we walked up from Gwernol Station and had a nose about, not equipped for U/G and well dressed ladies in tow.
We had a look at the old dam and other interesting bits and speculated if the large waterfall entrance boulder pile was negotiable? Never went back as my contact in the area moved elsewhere.

Also vaguely remember driving our Landy up the rough track past some derelict buildings, not sure if it was the same day.

Had a very enjoyable visit there a few years back on an aditnow organised trip. My only visit to date.

Rather odd B&B I stayed in though, much running around and banging of doors in the early hours, some sort of family party/riot going on :lol:

We stayed at a campsite in Tywyn, equally noisy, lol.

Roy's excellent site brings back some memories but does not answer the waterfall/boulder choke question, i.e. is it passable?

I can't remember what is in the waterfall entrance. I have an idea that it doesn't go.

But I do know you can traverse the valley from the Cantrybedd side to the Bryneglwys side although the squeeze in the middle is very very tight.

Had a thorough look about down there more than a few years ago but never found any gaps large enough to suggest likely ways through for anything but the water.

Thinking about it, wouldn’t it pond in there during extended downpours if it was seriously choked? I’ve never heard of it doing so though.

We got thoroughly soaked squeezing through the boulders as far as daylight permitted and got the impression that the water was flowing through the choke unhindered. Much more appeared to be going in than exited via the outflow from the low level adit?

I have looked around the waterfall opening many times, assuming you mean the collapsed chamber with the waterfall coming down in to it? If there's a way on, it's well hidden!

Daylight adit has a wall with water coming over the top and in the 1960s we used to speculate what was behind it. I wonder if its source is the waterfall, we used to think so.

At the end of DA there is a chamber which had a lot of our grafiti from the 1960s but has been removed.
You may see "JW" initials about. I believe there was a quarryman with those initials, but more likely be John Walters who was one of our bunch. He eventually bought property in Abergynolwyne but was killed in a car crash.
In the 1960s he had a red XK150 he used to drive up to the quarry.

I could tell lots of tails.

I once met LTC, he lived in a bungalow at Towyn railway station at the time, he was with his 'Alvis' but when he started it the exhaust fell off.
