Saw this posted in a local facebook group, I live very close by and had no idea but always heard tales of the monk's escape route from the cathedral (got to be a good 1/3rd of a mile so... unlikely). Anyone any ideas?

Also, hello Thursday nighters I've come back from dead to post ;D

Morning mate

Wyn knows all about this; I'm sure he'll post something up when he sees this.

Thursday Nighters…..watch this space; "normal service will be resumed shortly" etc

See how good I am at guesswork.

Never been there and dont know it but being on shore level it would be the lowest level of natural drainage for anything, and I see no water flowing out, so this tells me its short bling heading.
My avatar is a poor likeness.

There are some scratching on the other side of the straits near the Gazelle, although it's totally different geology. Apart from some basic dykes that occur on both sides.

There were about three levels if I remember rightly, one was larger and blocked up, that was the one with the story that it led to the cathedral, that I first heard in the mid sixties. As you say very unlikely (also any tunnel would have to negotiate the now culverted Afon Adda and the 'wet' ground of the valley bottom. My Taid remembered the original GPO building being built and said they had tremendous problems de-watering the foundation trenches). IIRC there was one behind
the terrace of houses on the foreshore, which was dammed and used as a water supply. The one you refer to, doesn't really go anywhere.
Here's a photo taken in 1982, as you can see nothing has substantially changed.

I found a mine a little further away from the pier on the beach. It's well hidden, and looks like someone was living in it at some point.. I got a few photos which I'll attach once I work out how :smartass:

Get back onto your own side of the water!:lol::lol::lol: ;)

Upload them to your personal album if you don't know the name of the mine? Someone (Wyn!!) will know where they are and they can be allocated to the correct mine or a new entry can be started? Sounds interesting!

Ah you're one of us

Let me know if you're having problems uploading?

I can't see any entries on the database so you may be onto something new here. Nice one!

I see that this place is as manky as I remember...

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
