Hi all, does anyone have the floors heights for Moel Fferna?

Had a good trip last Friday and I would like find out how big some of the chambers are down there as I forgot to measure them with my laser.

Try looking at this drawing first, should be able to work out what is what from this:

http://www.aditnow.co.uk/documents/Moel-Fferna-Slate-Mine/Moel-Fferna-Map-Section.pdf

When we were there a couple weeks back I'm sure the maps we had were slightly different; not sure where we got them from though!!

Willy Eckerslike had one and nwminer had another.

Perhaps they'll see this thread and reply, with a link to the other maps? :flowers: :flowers:

The plan I had is credited to Andy Cornford who appears to have reworked the original abandonment plans held at Ruthin Archive office. Andy had added notes and symbols for representing items like winch bases, roofing tunnels, etc., which we found very useful for navigating the mine. Thanks Andy!

I probably got it from Dave Tyson's link here:

It's a postscript file. There are various online sites that convert .ps to pdf if you want to go that way.

Thanks for that link, it's mile easier to decipher than the blue one!

Looks like we missed a fair bit by not going to some of the lower levels, is it just floor 1 that is flooded then?

I think I poked my head down the manway on the bottom of the map and it looked like it went down pretty steep.

Looks like more investigation is required another day.

We had a look at the manway last time and decided that next time we go down there we'll just leg it down to the bottom and work our way up. And then stop to repair the rusted leg on the pump

Floor 1 only floods in wet weather, it all depends on the amount of rain which has fallen. In dry weather it is OK.

lowest floor was waist high when we last went in the snow, amazing walk back to the car though, emerged to a snowy sunset absolute stunning. Is anyone else having issues with the ucet link? I'm curious to view it and see how much we have missed.

looks like the UCET site is down at the moment.

We found a set of keys on top of the hill that some poor sod had lost.

Couldn't work out the way down to the lowest level, from looking at the map it's not too difficult.

The plan that Andy Cornford reworked is a plan which I drew in 1996. The original mine pan was in Hawarden Public Records Office then and I revised it in 2006.
Andy's plan of Penarth came from me, also drawn from plans in Hawarden 1996. I think we traded plans. I got a stunning one from him of Pandora.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
