This week we're in Cwmorthin Slate Mine for a spot of orienteering!

Everyone welcome :flowers:, bring your harness and cowstails if you like (handy for getting around some bits but not essential) and meet around 6:15pm in the usual place:

Or a bit earlier if you want to cool off in the lake first 😮!

Hello, I am a new member. I have done some 'solo' exploration of a few mines above Tanygrisiau. I am truly fascinated by what I have seen, but as I am on my own I get 'spooked out' in less than half an hour AND more to the point, seek some expert company as it were!

I did meet a group on Thursdays that meet in car park above Tanygrisiau lst summer. I think they meet up around 6pm.

I would like to explore more of the mines, i.e the mighty Rhosydd and of course Cwmorthin.

How do I do this, meet up with groups?
What equipment do I need?

I have a few Chinese made head torches, helmet, willies and waterproof jacket already!

Many thanks for any help, Mike Seddon, Aintree, Liverpool:angel:https://www.aditnow.co.uk/images/emoticons/innocent.gif

Hi Mike, welcome to AditNow

It seems like you have the basic equipment needed. Ideally you'll want to work your way up to a nice long-burning head torch that is waterproof with a small backup just in case.

In regards to trips, if any have been organised you will see them advertised on here. Willy Eckerslyke will generally detail the meetup place and give a brief idea of what kit is required. Some trips don't require any vertical gear, others will.

Just keep an eye out on here and feel free to turn up!

Hope to see you around on a Thursday!

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
