The main hotel is quite dear but also try their lodge rooms, they are much cheaper and very nice. No idea about dogs though

As we have a little over a week till our meal, with what me and sinker discussed on thursday just gone, being it not about the food but about the get together. Are we going to go ahead with the royal oak, or knock it on the head and find an alternative.

I'd say stick with the Royal Oak.

My vote would be to stick with the Royal Oak.

I'm unsure as to what benefit moving the venue would really bring to anyone at this stage.

Obviously the incident should never have happened and was dealt with badly but I understand that the guilty parties have now been sacked so I see no reason for the rest of their staff to suffer.

So I'm hoping that we're going ahead as planned. It's too late to find an alternative now anyway. And if we cancel, it could mean not seeing some friends for a while - perhaps even another year.

I think it would be impossible to reschedule at a week's notice. Quite apart from finding another venue has anybody got the time to arrange it?

So I also vote with going ahead as planned.

And I agree completely with others who've said that it's very unfair that the completely unconnected and innocent members of staff have their jobs put at threat by everyone staying away because of the actions of two people - who have now been sacked and hopefully will face prosecution.

Even though I can't go, I agree with all those who say to stick there. It was very badly handled from a business point of view, but that place is important for jobs in the area and any support they can get now will be beneficial. Just hope that you don't get feline instead of bird :o:o:lol::lol::lol:

They offered a room for a sensible price but not dog he sleeps in the car usually but it can be a bit too cold at this time of year

Agree. Stick with the Royal Oak. Unbelievably sad, upsetting and, not to say, bizarre situation that they find themselves in. My mind is fully boggled 😞

It would appear all the vindictively nasty Trip Adviser reviews that suddenly sprung up after the news broke have been removed πŸ™‚ It should have been pretty obvious to anyone seeing them that they have very few 1* reviews and for a sudden and immediate jump in 1* reviews following the negative news to be quite suspect!

I wondered that too! And Phil might be somewhere in the Norwegian wilderness and not in a position to read this, so I gave the Oak a ring. Turns out they hadn't specified a time at all. Watch this space. I think the lady was keen to make it 7-7.30 for dinner (she'll try to liaise with Phil but I suppose that will be the time if he is unreachable) but it's nice to have a pre-dinner drink one assumes.

Stables at 19.00hrs, but feel free to be there earlier!
Kitchen will be ready for us ~ 20.00hrs.
Ahem....we may have the place to ourselves....
Anyway! See you all there!
I decided not to pay up front or even put down a deposit just in case they folded and we lost the lot so you can all pay individually at the end of the night. Except Mick....you're covered
