I'm following up a Query by a Colleague who lived at Llansanan as a boy and played around a lead mine in woods close by. The area was called Nant y Plwm grid ref... SH 92847 66121. A quick search on AN found nothing. Anyone heard, know of, or been there?

NGR is a bit off for what appear to be two shafts on OS 1:25000

Edit: NGR marked as 'level' on Denbighshire XII.NE (includes: Llansannan.)

Thanks Morlock and Davel for sending the links. And an added bonus in the form of the Cooks explosives/Penrhyn Quarry black powder incident 1939 article in the the WMS newsletter. Brilliant.

Unfortunately I can't open the WMS link....it down-loads around 300k and then freezes.....dammit! I like the sound of ANYTHING described as a "black powder incident" :lol:

I spoke to my mate who lives in the old shop in Llansannan (his name is Andrew but we call him Arkwright / Open All Hours :lol:) and he reckons that you can get into the adit but can't remember where it goes....although he reckons there is another separate shaft....does the WMS article detail it?

WMS mentions two Nant Y Plwm mines. The one I was querying (and the one Morlock linked to) is closest to the village, close to the road bend and in the woods. Not much on that one.

When it was mentioned, I was told ' as a boy we played in the mine... it went in for half a mile 😉 O how things look bigger when your young!

Could these be a Thursday night trip at some point? I used to live near Llanfair TH but never found some of them as there was no Ye olde t'internet back then! :lol:

Count me in....if it's a relatively short, level walk to get to it....

Mr Eckerslyke is acting as stand-in social secretary due to my currently reduced physical abilities (translation: "knackered"), as I felt it wasn't my place to organise trips that I couldn't attend, so I won't try to sway him in any direction. However I'm sure he'll add it to his list :thumbsup:

I was going to suggest first sending a couple of scouts, report back and then subject to Intel. deploy a full ground force. Godfrey & Corporal Jones, you first... Don't tell Hodges. :lol:
