This looks amazing to conduct a underwater survey, what are the logistics of getting out kit to the waters edge ?

That's the bottom of the chamber 34 incline, it's about 20 minutes from daylight if you're not carrying anything and not hanging around. Easiest route would be down the back vein incline and along Lefel Ffrench - avoids any steps, ladders etc.

The area dewatered about 5 years ago and was quite well explored and photographed so wouldn't be new.

Easier - and to the best of my knowledge never dived (I think somebody intended to once but didn't) would be the E to G incline just off the back vein incline.

There was an attempt to dive in this area a few years ago (21st/22nd March 2008 to be exact). I think Miles Moulding was contacted by some divers who wanted to explore and he asked for some volunteers to help move gear. I think there were three divers and a shed load of gear. I and a colleague went along and I think we moved the stuff via chamber 7E to the Oakley hurdles and down the Ch45 incline. The divers got in the water and pratted about for about an hour without really getting anywhere. They had a lot of expensive gear (heated suits and re-breathers). They then exited with some feeble excuses and left. Next day we returned and gave them a hand to drag the gear up and back to their Land Rover. Miles would probably know which dive group it was.

I think it would have been a lot easier to go down the BVI and along the level in hindsight.

That sounds like they didn't really know this type of diving we call them designer divers all the kit and not a lot of knowledge

I'm sure a few of us locals would be happy to lug kit down there - I've always wanted to see the E-G incline dived. Will have a word to see if it's possible. Also happy to take you on a reccee!

It should be pointed out that Miles has a lease on Cwmorthin mine.
It would at least be polite to discuss this with him before deciding things on an open forum. :smartass:

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
