I have a new toy to take into Fferna. But even without that, when can I ever say no to Fferna?

Timing is all important though, time off is limited.

Enough people and/or a double pulley, shouldn't be a problem.

Regrettably, I'm non-SRT (but could be trained!). It's only over the mountain from our usual w/e location above Mold. Somewhere I'd love to have a look in... Electron ladder? Could manage that.

I'm no expert on the place, but I remember that last time we decided that a ladder plus safety line was a lot easier than SRT due to it only being about 40 ft I think and lots of protruding rocks.

Easiest SRT pitch in the world  I would be happy to put a complete beginner on it.

Moel fferna was my first srt & i found it really easy. I could bring along mini-me (14) who proved himself on his first 20' srt at our local quarry. So do we have any idea of dates? Saturdays are best for me? 🙂

Just remembered that my eldest lad may still have his climbing gear - will have to ask if he still has some SRT gear that Dad could borrow. At only 40 ft, could probably manage that for a first shot, I know the principles, just need the practice...

The simplest, safest and quickest way to get people in & especialy out of Moel Ferna is a wire rope ladder with a lifeline.
It might be "old fashioned"
It might not be "matcho"

But it works!
As for passing SRT gear up and down to novices :curse:
Who thinks that is a good idea?

My opinion is that putting a novice on an electron ladder into Moel Fferna is likely to put them off mine exploring or caving for life. Its a horrible, nasty little electron ladder pitch that just isn't worth the trouble. (Opinion!)
What's wrong with passing gear up and down.....that seems to work too?
If you are there with a group of experienced people then its the experience that makes the difference?

I have put a beginner down this pitch, and it was my first "proper" drop in. If you are worried about Clutch and Plummet, stick them on an Anthron and make sure the rope is clean. Gear was passed as well. I'm not going to suggest that someone chuck a few hundred quid into something that they may only do once or twice. If you like it, great, go get the shiny stuff and have at it.

Using an electron on the way out of there had the beginner (who dropped in on a stop), saying "feck that" afterwards (well, it was a lot more vocal than that, but you get the idea). I am fairly sure it was invented purely as a torture device. Fair enough, it used to be the only sane option, but now we don't *need* to use them for the most part.
