Last time I was in Cwmorthin I found an unusual mineral deposit in a tunnel wall on lake level.
It consisted of a trace amount of candy pink powder, and the only likely match I can find in mineral ID books is with pink cobalt bloom.

We tried to take a photo, but it proved impossible due to the smallness of the deposit. Can't think how we actually came to notice it, as it was so very small an amount.

It was in a cross cut tunnel if I remember rightly, rather than in a chamber, so probably, given the location, in strata between the back and old veins .

Is cobalt a possibility in this kind of geology?

There is Cobalt Bloom in other mines in the Harlech dome area.

what I saw was very much less than this, but colour is just about right. Come to think about it, don't know how I even came to notice it. I was just looking closely at the wall for some reason I don't even remember, and there it was.

Any signs of hydrothermal vein mineralisation in the vicinity? There are quartz-sulphide veins in the area (e.g. Moelwyn, Stwlan, Moel Fleiddiau, Newborough), but their relationship to the veins of the Harlech Dome remains unknown and their characteristics make them rather more likely to be linked to those that occur in and around the Snowdon Caldera.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
