Howdy

I have been exploring some of the various parts of Talysarn copper mine, just when i thought i'd got it mostly figured out i pretty much literally tripped over a very well hidden adit (marked A2 on topo). This adit goes in about 30m, then straight ahead leads to a dead end, right goes for 10m then leads to a passageway with the underside of a false floor visible above, there is a hole in the floor (impassable) and a tunnel continues beyond this.

The left turn leads immediately to a flooded stope and i think continues on past this, but more importantly the stope continues upwards and there is a small amount of water running down the side of it.

Does anyone know whether this adit links up either with the SRT stope above (my 20m rope wasn't long enough, going to go for another look with a 50) by taking the left turn, or the A1 adit by taking the right turn?

Does anyone know anything more about where any of these passageways lead??

also, the floor in the bottom of the passage leading off to the right below the opening to the surface accessed by A1 looks real sketchy, is it one big stope going all the way down to A2 with a few false floors or are they individual tunnells all with a load of ruble on the floor?

Anyone know anything?

Thanks

It was of one of the adits in the vicinity of your photo. I've been down the shaft top right, and there's nothing coming off it above water level.

There are some workings lower down the stream as well. Also worth an explore is Benallt on the other side of the valley.

Yes, I rapidly developed an interest in somewhere else.

Crawling over a well-rotted sheep carcase is definitely a required rite-of-passage for any mine explorer!

today i abseiled 40m down through the opening marked 'SRT down' and came out of the adit marked 'A2'. i'm convinced that more of these must link up.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
