That would be very cool if it can be done!!!

Getting someone to dive the end chamber in the east workings/chambers under the caban to establish that there's still a connection would be good!

Getting bottles in that hole as it is now would be interesting. I foresee a project coming on...

Someone to dive the end chamber is not a problem, the problem is getting kit there 😒

:)
Would make sense to dive it from the east workings rather from under the caban.

The connection's shown on the map and if you stare into the water for long enough, I'm sure you can just make out the top of a tunnel at the bottom of the last chamber in the east workings. Slight climb up into that last chamber but still easier than going in under the caban, I'd imagine. According to the map, you wouldn't even need to go to the end chamber... all of the chambers west of the Townshends chamber are linked by the drive which connects to the chambers behind the caban.

I'm sure MarineBoy was talking once about diving the connection, though I don't recall if he ever did.

If someone wants to dive it, I'll happily come along to haul their kit!

shall keep that in mind, my usual dive partner for this type of diving is away teaching at the mo shall have a word when he gets back, how much effort is needed here, we know the usual entrance that Turbo has shown us plus the one up the road where there is a LOT of loose stuff coming of the ceiling with bubbles is. this another spot ???

That map will be a big help Paul.

Judging from the divers footprints I saw last time, You were quite close to the caban, a couple of chambers away in the chamber with the mouse hole into Martins quarry. The plan says there is an underwater connection. I know there is certainly water at either end, but obviously don't know if it is navigable.

The general rule for that map is that if it's blue, it's above water (on the east side anyway).

You'd use the main entrance... the incline in Townshend's quarry that leads into the chamber with the huge cylinder in it. You'd go left from that chamber, through 4 chambers, climbing up into a 5th and that's the chamber that should have the connection under the water line. Pretty easy place to get to; there's a slight climb/clamber into the last chamber and IIRC there's a small wall partially blocking the level in one place but easily negotiated... certainly a lot easier than going in from the other end. That end is accessed from Martin's quarry (the big quarry with the haulage-way running through it), and involves a bit of a crawl.
Undoubtedly easier if someone can show you on the ground!

While we're discussing theories about Cambrian, I have another question...

Does anyone (Steve!) know whether or not all the inclines within the quarries were powered? Reason I ask is that there are several trwnc wagons underground and they all appear to have been made mostly with wood with metal bracing. But the trwnc wagon outside in Martin's quarry is different. It looks like it was pretty-much all metal and looks very water-tank-like. Is it possible that it's actually a water-balance for a self-acting incline? If not, is there a reason for the 2 apparently different designs?

Incline into Martin's Quarry was a water-balance... so I assume I was right about the remain of the trwnc there πŸ™‚

take me forever to get my head around it not being a local.. is there any way you can get me started by marking the bits we know IE the adit with the big boiler and the adit down the road where the farmer stores his silage.
