hello!

I'm in North Wales (Betws-y-Coed) for a few months and was wondering if any of you guys have any recommendations for mine trips while i'm here? (already done croesor-rhosydd, but wouldn't mind a bit more of an explore in there!)

Thanks! 🙂

Cae Coch Pyrites mine - near Trefriw
Wrysgan - Tanygrisiau
Rhiwbach - Penmachno
Bwlch y Plwm - Penrhyndeudraeth
'Fish Cave' aka Talargoch Mine - Prestatyn

Also loads more stuff in the North East, but you would need some local advice on access.

There is another easy one with no restrictions at Penrhyndeudraeth, its Pantywrach. Easy to get into since I dug out the upper adit just above the lane to the Hotel. Deep adit is below the road, scramble through a fallen tree.

Bwlch-y-Plwm upper adit virtually sumps out in wet weather and kills the through trip. Deep adit always open and free access, at the end of the aforementioned lane so the 2 together make a good day.

I think Roy is referring to the level 4 entrance (i.e. the level above the deep level adit) which does seem to be rather wetter these days than when I first went in there.

However, there is no problem going in on level 2 and abseiling down to level 4 and then continuing down to exit from the the deep level adit.

Sorry yes, Dave is right.
There is a stream in wet weather that enters the level, I keep trying to build a sort of little dam. It wants doing properly with concrete.

However, there is no problem going in on level 2 and abseiling down to level 4 and then continuing down to exit from the the deep level adit.

Hiya,
The likes of Cwmorthin, Wrysgan and a few others can be happily explored for many an hour without the need for SRT.
Wrysgan will give an hour or so thru trip or you could wander off track and take a bit more time.
Cwmorthin you could be underground for many many hours some SRT is possible but it would probably be advisable to get a feel for the mine before lobbing off down into a chamber.
BTW you will need the code for the padlock for Cwmorthin.
Needless to say, once you come round N.Wales, you'll be back
May the fleas of a thousand camels infest the crotch of the person who
screws up your day and may their arms be too short to scratch.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
