I feel this is a issue worth raising.

I was looking around Cwmorthin at the weekend and was rather disappointed by the number of fresh cigarette butts laying around. In particular around the chambers below the BODOD which I visit frequently and so know that the ones there are no more than a few weeks old. 😠

I'm sure I am not alone in seeing discarded fag butts in no better light than discarded sweet wrappers, it's all rubbish and completely inexcusable. I bet the ones who thoughtlessly thrown their fag ends on the ground would be disgusted if they saw someone throw a sweet wrapper on the ground! There is no difference..!

You have taken the cigarette out of a box to smoke it, just put the end back in it when you have finished. It really is as simple as that, not rocket science.

Please think of the other people who want to enjoy the mine as near to how it was left as possible.

I totally agree. I am fairly new to mine exploring but when I was taken to the Smallcleugh recently I was disappointed to find loads of newspapers and tealights discarded. I just donyt understand why the users of these cant stick them back in their packs and take them home.

I used to smoke (up until 7 days and 15 hours ago!) but have nt smoked in a mine, though if I did I would stick the fag ends in me old baccy tin and take them out.

Butts don't degrade either. I come across them in places where I can be 100 percent sure they were dropped 20 years ago.

I really wouldn't worry about where they are - given the state of the ceiling, they're going to be under a lot of rock very shortly. It's failed very recently and we watched a large slab slowly peeling away, although it was quite well attached when we left. I'll find a pic later on...

Whilst it's not a subject for this forum, I would strongly advise anyone to stay well clear of this chamber as it is one of the least stable I've seen in a long time. The exact location has not been made clear through this thread and if that could be kept that way, it would be better. 🙂

In all the time I smoked I never lit up underground, too busy doing other stuff I guess. :thumbup:

I had not intended it to turn into a debate having only wanted to raise the fact that littering is completely unnecessary in my opinion.

There will never be a full agreement one way or the other.
