This is interesting in the fact that the system of using pipes such as these for a chimney was used at Talybont (nr Aberystwyth). In 1868 George Green of the Cambrian foundry installed a 5 h.p. steam engine in an "upper adit". My opinion is that this adit was Myddeltons Adit which cut the western engine shaft. There is a complete collapse there today running all the way down through the workings, but a section of pipe, sooty on the inside remains, as does a small pile of ashes and rusty metal fragments. The pipework would have course been carried up the engine shaft to day.
I am of course familiar with Minllyn, as I do travel around, but have not seen anything like this elsewhere. Has anyone else?

There was this at MaenOfferen in 1981 in chamber B7, next to the B8 incline winder. There were some brick remains too, but very scattered about. This was presumably the boiler chamber from the days when the B8 incline was steam worked.

You can see the flue lying on the forebreast - the rings and cable on the roof are rather more modern!
The map is the territory - especially in chain scale.

Some of the rings in that chamber (not sure if they are the ones in your photo) appeared to have originally been steam pipes leading through to the B8 Incline head.

On the ground in that area are a few iron firebars too.

That would make sense - steam into B8 from B7, smoke etc. up flue to A and above. I seem to recall (now you mention it) looking at a hole in the wall...

This was the floor of B7 at the same time (1981) with the various bits lying about.
