Does anyone have a photo of the adit at the Penrhyn Quarry which drains to old pit to the river Ogwen?
The flooded pit is full of salmon!

Do you mean at the River end or the Quarry end ? There's a picture of the River end in Boyd, I think, but at the quarry end the drainage adit does not have a single entrance. It is connected to the water balance adits which lie just on or above the present water level and which are additionally connected to the lower levels by flooded shafts. I would be very much surprised if Salmon had managed to make their way up the tunnel and then into the sink. I would rather suspect they have been introduced into the sink directly.

The map is the territory - especially in chain scale.

Graham thanks for your very quick reply. Either end would do.
I remember seeing a picture taken by one of our staff and it really is a very impressive tunnel! The Environment Agency fitted a grille over the lower end where it joins the River Ogwen, but the salmon and sea trout take the easy option when the river is in spate and swim up into the quarry pool. On a calm day you can see 30-40 fish. I did catch a sea trout in the pool a couple of years ago! A colleague is planning to bring his boat so we can try for a fish and yes we do both have EA licences.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
