I've seen these in another mine in the same region, but never anywhere else. Was this peculiar to the Corris region slate quarries?

I've only ever seen this in Corris Slate Mines. It was unusual to have underground inclines in this region (I can think of only 1) so perhaps steps were needed in the absence of other easy routes.

There is a similar set in No.2 Level, Hartsop Hall mine (Cumbria). Must have been a joy to climb them in clogs!
