Gentlemen :)

And DylanW, not at all, we want a Welsh slate industry - and would like to see it thrive in the face of all the cheap (and inferior) imports.

Yes Simon, here, here, All possible should be done to keep the Welsh slate industry viable. It is a national tragedy what has happened to it (and coal industry too).

I do feel on occasions though that the management of some of the quarries caused (and are still causing) some of the downfall though. Recent headlines would regrettably seem to confirm this thought.

I might add that sometimes I do have "inside access" so do know (but mustn't speak) of some of the "blunders" that do not help the situation.

Thank you :)

Now don't be pulling that mill to bits while the crane's inside, will you... 😉

DylanW et al, looking at the road layout today, will the crane be going back in the original position do you know or will it be somewhere else? Any other news on it, like when and what's being done to it?

As I understand it, it will be placed in a different spot, as the road will be over it's original position, as for when, i' m not sure.

I did post (on here or maybe it was ME) when the crane first went missing and I contacted the council that the crane will be in slightly different position. Although they didn't give me a reason.

I suppose not, along as it's still there. Though the original one would be.

Presumably the crane will be in a different position as the road will be in a different position - and it would be a bit silly to put the crane in the road...

Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if some guys on here would demand for it to be placed exacly where it use to be! 😉 (naming no names of course!)

As for chwarelau beeing the plural of chwarel, i'd bee more inclined to use the shorter "Chwareli"!

On thinking about it, it seems odd that the road is the reson. Surely, the crane was further away from the road than the weighbridge, and the road is going to be clear of that.

The new road wont be following the old roads route precisely, as it is beeing widened and taken further away from the tips of llechwedd

I understood, from reading the description and maps (a weighty tome!), it was being raised by appromimately 2 metres at that point so, in effect, it would be OVER the foot of the Llechwedd tips. It being impossible to widen the road at that point any other way.
