Hello everybody,
I know people have discussed this before, but thought I would ask again as it was some years ago.
I am looking for information about accessing any mines in the channel Islands. In particular, locations of mine entrances and details of who I would need to contact to arrange access?
Sark is fairly well documented, and I believe I should contact the seigneur for permission.
There have been mentions of mines on the other islands, too. I would be very grateful for any info on these, too.
Thanks, all.

Not much accessible underground at Sark's Hope. Engine shaft is blocked circa 30m down and Deep Adit (in a sea cave) is run a few yards in.

There is a trial on the Le Pot copper lode which I seem to recall is run in.

There is a trial on Breqhou. Go anywhere near Breqhou and the Barclay brothers with zap you with their death rays. (This is not a joke they have turned the Island into a fortress worthy of a Bond villain; they like their privacy).

I believe that there are accessible workings on Herm. I've not been there myself but by all accounts they are not that inspiring.

My experience of underground mine exploration in the Channel Islands is that it is a whole heap of effort for minimal pay back.

There are also some sea caves on Sark which have remarkable colonies of sea anemones. I believe that these are accessible on Spring tides.

If you are in the Channel Islands the best bet, as Mike says, is the military stuff (both above and below ground). The last time I was in Jersey (last Spring) coincided with the Channel Islands Occupation Society's open weekend. They have a number of bunkers which they opened to the public including a very fine machine gun emplacement, complete with heavy machine gun, overlooking St Ouen's bay.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
