I've had a query from a friend of mine regarding the above.

He visited Boskednan recently and found these two separate chambers, more or less at tight angles to one another. The back wall is a Cornish hedge but not part of the original structure. There is a shaft about 25 metres away surrounded by a spoil heap.

Basically he would be interested in any information on these chambers. Apparently the local name for them is 'creep'.

Thanks

Something to do with Sheep IIRC. Possibly for shelter during lambing season/bad weather.

Is he sure they're related to mining? The top pic especially is reminiscent of neolithic structures which caused me to do a bit of poking around online...
I found the term "creep" seems to be associated with soutterains or "Fogou" as they appear to be referred to in Cornwall.

I could be completely and utterly wrong of course but Boskednan is part of a large neolithic / bronze-age landscape, stone-circles and all that.

Sorry I should have mentioned it's not necessarily related to mining. The shaft nearby is quite likely a red herring.

He is aware that it's an ancient site as that was the reason he was there in the first place. He's familiar with fogous and it is not like other fogous he's seen and probably if it was thought to be one it would already be listed.

The entrance is quite small, about 14inch which I feel might be a bit of a clue.

Yes, it was a bit strange that there didn't seem to be anything listed which corresponds to it.

I found mention that a lot of the bronze-age stuff had been disturbed by the mining so not suprising that there might be confusion over what's what.

Shame that there's no pic of the inside as that would help!
