I wonder which mine they will use to do the mining scenes?

But potentially could be a wealth of material to nit pick historical inaccuracies with engines houses etc.

There is a list on the IMDB, i would imagine the underground scenes are filmed on a set

Poldark along with Secret Army are my two favorite 70s TV series

Sorry didn't make it very clear - this is a plan for a NEW series of Poldark. Anyone game to dress up in regency mining clobber and get filmed underground?

They are planning to use Seal Hole cave at Snagnes?!

Someone has clearly not done sufficient background reading. I know a couple of people who have been in there and absolutely shat themselves as a result of the cave's namesake. Think of a bowl of maggots, swap the maggots with seals and turn the bowl into a cave....there.....in the dark as well.

There is an adit in the back of the cave and apart from a vintage PGC trip, which may have had a degree of success, the other trips resulted in people crapping themselves, slipping around on big writhing, slippery rocks in total panic and horror trying to get back to their boats!

I don't think so, that link points to locations used in the original 70s version.

With Elf & Safety being what it is, IF they do use underground - IF they do film it in Cornwall even - they will not film in an abandoned mine I would hazard a guess. SO where does that leave: -

Greater Condurrow Mine
Holman Test Mine
Wheal Mexico at Geevor
South Crofty
Poldark Mine

rosevale ?

would agree, Rosevale has the right feel to it, possibly Wheal Mexico depending on whether they want 'in depth' underground scenes, or just going underground/coming up again scenes to tie in with action stuff filmed on sets.
Doubt Crofty would entertain it, or Condurrow (still used by CSM). Never thought I'd say this but..I reckon test mine looks too modern!

Sorry forgot Rosevale, yes it would be another good one. The problem with the smaller more authentic mines such as Rosevale, Mexico and Greater Condurrow is the size, the practicalities of filming in these locations will be difficult.

The best in terms of authenticity and access would be the old workings at Crofty, having the relatively flat stope gives it the ability to work in 3 dimensions.

I doubt the production team will worry too much about the finer detail of 18th century mining.

One has to remember that great concur row was used as a set in the 1970s along with various members of CSM staff who played the miners !

Rosevale, great condurrow, Wheal Mexico and perhaps the Tncroft section of Crofty could be used. Having filmed with the BBC on several occasions being small does not always work, considering all, the other persons who need to be there along with the actors like, the rest of the crew.

IMHO the only question that needs to be asked is why bother ?
If it can't be grown it has to be mined.

I'll let you know if, like from quite a few production companies, we get a request to use the Reigate Caves! "We are looking for a suitable site close to London"

I bet they go for Redcliffe caves in Bristol (the second home of the beeb)

My Money is on using Mexico for underground scenes as not very modern looking and popping up the road to Levant for the surface scenes and hope no-one spots anything remotely mid Victorian. Maybe an older Poldark meets a young Trevithick who installs a new High Pressure engine in his mine?

Going out of Cornwall would incur the wrath of all the Poldark Fans and get on local news etc.

No, not quite all the Poldark fans. I would be very happy to see a nice donation to my society in return for assistance in Reigate.... 😉

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
