Hello all, I have just uploaded a collection of photo's that I took when I worked at Geevor to the Geevor User Album.
They are of what I believe was the last rope cut, the photos are not in any particular proceedural order but they provide what I hope is a unique record.
There is also a photo of the winder driver at the winder at Victory shaft taken shortly afterwards, I can't remember his name but I ought to, he lived out Morvah somewhere and was very popular with the ladies when underground tours were given.
The names I can remember from those photographs are:

Bob Orchard, Chief Engineer.
Donald Harris, Top Engineering Shop.
Norman Barnicoat, Shaft Masters Mate.
Roy Angove, Top Engineering Shop?
Maurice Trembath, Winder Driver.
Dave Trembath, Winder Driver.
Frank Stone? Mine Office.
Can anyone remember the others in the photos?

The winder drivers name was John France. Lived in the old Morvah School House (now an art gallery).

Nice guy and knew him through his wife Sue who used to be my Head of Department at Duchy College. Had some great wine tastings.

Last I heard of him was as Head of Faculty Arts/Photography at the University of Sheffield I believe. 🙂
poke around long enough and you'll find something..

Thanks, yes, that's him, I remember his wife was a teacher.

Some really important photographs here, Lozz - I'll see if any of the old timers still at Geevor can come up with any more names.

Sadly Frank Stone passed away last year.

Sad to hear that Bill, Frank was a nice man, the man in the photo with a flat cap and glasses is I think the only one who's name I'm stuck with he used to drive one of those cars that looked a bit like a four wheel drive but wasn't, it's on the tip of my tongue but not quite there, Eddy? (not Eddy Strick)

Thanks Bill, I think he was a surface man maybe, I talked to him loads of times but just can't place him I can picture a couple of the Hanimag drivers, those couple don't match him.

Maybe Dave Wright will remember?

Allan Reynolds thinks its Eddie Harris.
If it can't be grown it has to be mined.

I think it would suffice to say 'Mexican Bandit' although some who know him well during that period might say differently 😮

Now the Phil Reynolds, Allan's brother who worked in the Mill has had a look at the images, it is possible that David Semmens (far left) may be in image 14, and the gent in Image 11 is Leon Gyselman.

No one is sure about the guys in the Green and Red hats, though.

Thanks, yes, Leon Guilseman I new that was him but forgot to mention his name, kew Leon quite well as he worked with me sometimes in the sawmill, he used to go out to that Geevor prospect out in Ecuador, my sister in law used to rent a couple of rooms in his house at Crippersease.
David Semmens rings a bell, the man in the red hat was Maurice Trembath I think and the man in the green hat was David Trembath? Both were winder drivers, after the pumps were switched off David (Trembath?) worked at the Co-op on Penzance front in the forecourt petrol station.
