As of this afternoon it's a yes. There are three caravans there with a number of dogs one of which was similar to the Hound of the Baskervilles. You can still get into the engine house (I didn't have time), and you can queeze past another caravan to the viewing platform as you can see.

The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there.

It appears the residents have abandoned their caravans and somebody has been systematically setting fire to them - there has been alot of black smoke on and off from this area. I dread to think what state this site is in now, might go past on my way to the mining games...
Is it safe to come out of the bunker yet?

In a twist of delicious irony, you could scrap the aluminium from their caravans.

I imagine that would feel good!

They must have been relatively rich whoever they were, they left the caravans behind and I saw them getting taxis to return here in the day time, even though it is 20 mins walk from the station and the Bus stop is 5 mins walk.
Will try to post my very grainy pictures (taken from 1/4 mile away) of the "smokin' at Williams shaft" soon.

A one sixth scale 114 year old “model" of the Williams Shaft Traversing Winder is still extant and can be seen in action at nearby Poldark (Wheal Roots) Mine and Open Air Museum - a present the modern electric drive mechanism needs a new gearbox. This unique two cylinder winding engine model is quite large and weighs in at a few tons (that at the Williams Shaft was 150 tons). The model was built by Holman's and taken to Paris in 1900 where it won a Gold Medal at the Paris Exposition and was seen by millions of people at that time. The huge model ended up in the Holman Museum Collection much of which was acquired by the late Peter Young who founded the collection at Poldark. A range of other interesting Holman Museum artefacts have been found following years of neglect. Some items are being restored by voluntary assistance and several important items are now on display again. The Holman Gold and Silver medals are usually in the Museum when not in secure storage and are on kind loan from the Trevithick Society. It is hoped that the Traversing Winder will be restored to operate on compressed air when funds and voluntary work can be organised. The museum is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays in December except for Christmas week. Small groups can be arranged at other times.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
