My mother lived on Holden Road in Leigh - I think in the 1930s/40s. The wood on the left hand side of the Railway was (and is) Lilford Park and I remember a playground there in the 1950s near to the footbridge over the railway line which we visited whenever my mother went to visit her cousin Eva who lived on Old Hall Mill Lane. I only vaguely remember the colliery on the other side of the footbridge - I wasn't interested in such things then, and of course, collieries were commonplace, dirty, smoky etc...... not somewhere a mother would take her young son.

Oh dear - I'm becoming reminiscent 😢

Cheers
