New Member - I have noticed that there are not many photos of these great holes in the ground.
I will try to add some before they flood (one or two big ones are being mothballed/shut down).

Welcome aboard :)

Oh dear: is good old-fashioned English China Clay going the same way as the rest of the British mining industry?
Hello again darkness, my old friend...

A shift in demand to other minerals and higher energy costs mean there has been a reduction in China clay production in Cornwall and several pits are closing, although several are still operating. At least the outlook for Tin in the future in cornwall is positive (Very high price / looking at reopening old mines).

I believe it was about 18 months ago that French-owned Imerys shifted 400,000 tonnes of clay production to Brazil in order to cut costs. Nearly 600 jobs being lost in the process.

Took a cruise up from Fowey past the clay loading docks....there 'Imerys' is reffered to as 'Misery'.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
