The Surrey Industrial History Group will be presenting their annual conservation award for 2013 to the Wealden Cave and Mine Society to recognise the work done in Reigate getting the sand mines and tunnels to a state where they can be appreciated by the public.
In addition to this, plans are now afoot to reconstruct and display in the system significant parts of a first century tile kiln, discovered in 2004 in Reigate. These remains include the oldest ever proven use of Reigate stone ashlar blocks, and we are immensely pleased, both for the SIHG award, and the prestige we hope to have for being custodians of a very important roman industrial relic.
