Despite the title, it's a real story, not a suggestion that some forum contributors should have smaller breakfasts!

From the BBC http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/8022583.stm :

Quote:

An earth tremor has struck the north west of England.

The British Geological Survey confirmed there had been an earthquake of 3.7 magnitude at 1120 BST on Tuesday.
It centred on Ulverston in Cumbria and was felt around Barrow, Kendal, Windermere, Fleetwood and the North Lancaster area.

There are no initial reports of damage. But Frank McCall, of Grange Over Sands, said: "I felt the house shake. At first I thought a lorry had hit."

He added: "I went outside and noticed neighbours were also on their doorsteps looking a bit bewildered.

"There hasn't been any damage that I can see, but it was quite frightening."

Police and the fire service said there had been no initial reports of damage or injuries.

A spokesman for the British Geological Survey said: "We picked it up on instrumentation.

"With a magnitude of 3.7 it is relatively small. We get one of this size roughly once every year in the UK and they rarely cause any damage."

Hello again darkness, my old friend...

Quite a few site members from that part of the country. Let's hope they were all safely at work and not underground then!

Still, it's an opportunity for me to wheel out my birthday earthquake in Maenofferen story again

Porbably more interesting than my 'had such powerful trots while in Kazakhstan that when I got off the throne and out of the bathroom, everyone was talking about the earthquake I had not noticed' story.
Been injured while at work and are not to blame?

Get over it.

Well it's not that interesting to be fair 😞 Was underground, on my birthday, and we had an earthquake.

This is why I don't get jobs as an after dinner speaker...

Whenever there is an earth tremor in this area I always wonder if the aptly named "Earthquake Passage" in the Top Level Extension of the Coniston Copper Mines has collapsed into the stope. Large, constantly extending cracks in the floor, huge splits and gaping holes in the tunnel walls.
During a survey with the BGS I took them there and the comment was "lets leave NOW!!"
Always changing, not a permanent feature for sure.
