Hi, I have just had a very good few days exploring the area. Could anyone tell me if the tunnel from Dale quarry to Wirksworth station is still complete, thanks, David

The station end can still be easily be seen (but it's gated) and most of the tunnel appears to be intact. I'm not sure if the quarry end is open or filled with quarry spoil.

The tunnel route is still shown on Memory Map 2004.
A bit more here.

Back in the 1970s, Andy Hayes and I surveyed some of the mine workings that were accessible in the tunnel - but there was not much to see.

In about 1971 I was in the Army Cadets and we had a weekend in a freezing cold barn on Middleton Moor and we stumbled into various adits in that area, and the weekend finished with firing Energa grenades into Middleton Mine !
