Hello,

I have been away and out of contact for a while.
I too am slowing down but fortunately my interest in the underground lies in the 25 m. or so from daylight. Specifically I am interested in fungal infection of insects during hibernation or aestivation. I seem to spend a lot of time just searching out the location of caves / mines. A grid ref. is often too general in, say, a thicketed slope which can be very difficult to explore.

Any advice on finding suitable sites would be welcome.

I have just discovered that there is a group of flies associated with hot springs which might be worthy of investigation so anything in that area would be of interest (references, locations / ideas) would also be welcomed.

Don the only place I think might be suitable for what you
suggest is the fan addit in Cavedale at Castleton.
You would need permission and a key from John Harrison as
the passage was re-connected from Peak Cavern in the nineties
and is used to reduce Radon levels, and while no cave diver or
member of TSG is going to claim Peak Cavern is thermal,you
have a warm damp cave with lots of fern growth and nobody
disturbing it

It suggested that I might be interested in publishing this , however, I have used the help of Pete Burgess to produce Cwmorthin and Rhosydd volumes and financing it myself. If it is in a suitable format that can be converted to pdf it is one way to go. I would look at PDHMS first of all its on their doorstep and more or less where their museum is. Unless you want to produce and retail it yourself with all that entails

I'd forotten all about that. Remember being dragged into there as a kid and it seemed deadly boring. Wasn't there an old bike hanging up covered in stone?
