Having heard lots of stories as to how the pool rapidly emptied, stories from Vaporisation (dont think global warming is that bad), leaks down the old pipes (no water seen anywhere) to 'i was fishing and the ground shook'. It has left me wandering if anybody has any ideas as to what happened???? Thought some of you may have some theories....

I can tell from the Shropshire Mines Trust that the reason that we have told been by experts that due to the very dry Summers the water has evaporated. There is no obvious water supply to the reservoir and preseumably the miners would have used leats and various springs ( the latter have probably been dry this year) In addition there is a vast amount of Forestry which would not have been there when the Mine was in its heyday. I have not been there for a few weeks but understand there is some water building up in the reservoir again.

As you may be aware regualtions regarding dams came into effect some years ago and the water was significantly lowered for safety reasons, my guess is the water is too low to sustain a lengthened drought period which it now suffers

Are you a member of the SCMC? if not if you are based in Telford have you thought of joining? PM with me your phone no we can chat

Personal comment from a member of a well known local family says that the water went down very quickly, his belief was that the water went down the drainage pipe via the valve house.
I have not heard of any signs of water being seen, but the ground was quite dry and it could just have been absorbed.
I am not aware of the current route of the pipes after they leave the valve house. ) :smartass:

(We were in the chip shop when we had this conversation 😞

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
