Did a trip here during last week as never been.... stunning atmosphere. I stayed on late and it felt like i was back in a working colliery yard... I guess that is what it still is.
As with Big Pit this place has got the balance dead right of how it was and a museum....

And there were plenty visiting even on a wet miserable winters day.... superb place, especially for nowt.

Spoke to the guys there and they and Big Pit regularly do beer which is great.... 😉

I was impressed with the full hour underground, and a guide that really knew his stuff. But the cafeteria was good too, and there is lots of stuff on the surface. I was expecting to have to pay, being free was a very pleasant surprise.

I am hoping to take some friends there soon. None of them have been underground. I anticipate a few screams when the cage begins its descent.

The best bit is the guys do seem to love what they do.... and it does show.... Everyone held their breath just that little bit as we we dropped.... Perfect.... and dare I say it educational!!!

It is a good place but I find museams never manage to get the true essence. The noise and dust at a working pit is the difference. You go to a museam and it gives you an idea of conditions but when I saw and heard and a working pit it made me realise what it is really like. The sound of the air pick will never leave me.

Caphouse is cracking though

I am an underground tour guide at caphouse museum and all the lads who work there are all old colliers.deputies,managers,fitters,and like myself electricians.We all enjoy the job and get great satisfaction from all the positive feedback from the people and 100's of school kids who visit frequently.I spoke to "iclok" on his visit just before christmas and enjoyed a convivial20mins with him. Keep up the good work and his photos are quite good

Ay up mate.... I will get up and see you as promised... my daughter is badgering me to go to!!! The winder at Caphouse is a gem and the video I got of its a cracker.
You should be very proud of all you and your lads stand for and please accept a big thanks for your time that day!!!
