Opened up by partners George Lovegrove a Saddler of Coldwell Street Wirksworth and Alfred Shaw of my kin
who lived at first Rose Cottage West End Wirksworth and then Ashleigh House Ravenstor Road Steeplegrange Alfred also had a small quarry on Colehills near Ravenstor..
In the 1930s my mothers 2nd cousin Dr James Walker lived at Ashleigh House which in recent years was used as an office by Tarmac Roadstones when still working Middle Peak Quarry founded by my Shaw family..My wife and i lived near Rock House which was built by John Shaw on Cromford Road Wirksworth in sight of his quarry ..Stoneycroft Quarry railway came down the rear of our house joining Old Lane and the Wirksworth Railway sidings
