The canal crossed the river Amber at Bull bridge then crossed the railway then finally it crossed the road.Part of this can still be seen if you cross the railway via the public footpath, at the site of the road aqueduct, on far side is an embankment which is the canal crossing the river Amber, it also crosses a small road, which I believe is called " Drovers way ".

Looking at all the input here made me wonder whether I am the only person on this site who has actually covered the towpath from Cromford to Langley Mill on foot,(Including the Pinxton branch), Also cycled Cromford to Codnor Park Resr. and Pinxton to Codnor Park. (although it would take a lot of deep hypnosis to recall every detail). Is this a "claim to fame"?.
This was before, during and after the "Bloody Great Gasworks".
At a couple of places along the Pinxton branch there where at least 2 scuppered cargo narrowboats, I wonder if they where buried in the infill. :glare:

When someone sorts out the albums for Cromford Canal (gonna add a few of them to help distinguish various parts) I will start to add some photos.

Can not claimed to have walked it all - yet!

The boat at Lower Hartshay is still visible & part buried.
I went in a mine once.... it was dark and scary..... full of weirdos

You won't be able to walk it as I did, because of the "Bloody Great Gas Works"!!, (Henceforth referred to as "BGGW" in my posts 😠 😞 ) - the "Exeter Bypass"* (A38) also affected it.

*When they where building it around Alfreton they posted it as "The A38 Exeter Bypass" - TRUE!!.

Otherwise, enjoy the walk - or bike ride - or whatever. 🙂 🙂

The Pinxton branch is totally obliterated from the railway bridge at Pye Bridge past the site of the acid works/coke ovens to just below the site of Longwood hall. The outcrop altered the landscape between Pye Bridge and Pinxton. It is not possible to walk this section as The footpath was diverted and the path was ,and still is, blocked off under the railway bridge. If any boats were sunk in this section of canal then they will be long gone.

I believe you, it is officially the Skegness to Bodmin Trunk Road.

Anyone who has actually travelled from Skegness to Bodmin deserves a prize, and a certain amount of sympathy.

Well, apart from the A38 ending at Mansfield Bus Station (only about 80 miles from Skegness) 😉

The A38 does pass within a mile or so of Skegness corner (Selston ).

Yes, that's right, but the Principal Road Network does not necessarily have the same road number over the entire length of a particular route. A good example is the M6 which becomes the M74 over the border, but it is still London to Glasgow.

Anyway, I'm sure there are more appropriate web-sites for people like me to discuss this fascinating subject. I will have to seek them out. But not tonight.

BTW, Mansfield Bus Station sounds even less attractive than either Skegness or Bodmin.

Have just heard from the Golden Valley Light Railway that 'travellers' have occupied the old Butterley Works site.

I wonder if they have yet met the neighbours from Butterley Hall?

I'm sure that Butterley Hall is aware, and it would take a lot of travellers to occupy the site, is Billy Bush (or his descendants) still the biggest dealer in the area?, I'm sure he will know the score

Any news on who currently owns the site? You all seem to be very up to date with everything?

Thanks

Don't know who owns the site but there has been a full time security guard + dog on the site for several months. Not stopped the windows being broken on old office block/ pattern shop, and the medical centre next door to it.:curse:
