my father worked here from the 50s till it closed in around 1970,and was the caretaker of the mine for many years after till it was sold. by the Allsop family, i have been round this mine alot and there it part of it that is now inaccessable since the quarry hole was filled in.the quarry was dug out when ringway airport was being built.the chert dug out was mainly used in the pottery industry as was the stone from holme bank mine.my father was the lorry driver and he delivered the stone and also fetched it in from bagilt in north wakes were messers Allsop also had a quarry.

pretoria is capped by pdmhs and been trying to find out who has the key as i want a trip
