Banks Mining’s operations at its Bradley opencast in County Durham have ceased. Evidently all mineable coal has now been got, with approx 250 jobs now looking very uncertain. Banks' controversial application to opencast at Druridge Bay is still awaiting approval - or not.

Allegedly thermal coal now only supplies 2% of UK electricity needs, I suspect Banks has more than that on their existing and, possibly, planned sites. Bit tough on the local folk as there's not much other work around, I don't drive around Leadgate that often but can't say I noticed much in the way of dust clouds as a consequence of their workings, one of DCC's concerns.
