Evening folks, how's it going? Anyone on here from the west of Scotland? Pretty much brand new to underground exploration, couple of local caves, and a couple of local mines. I entered an adit this morning, it's near Kilwinning and doesn't seem to be listed on your site. Anyway, I never got far in, I got a bit concerned about being on my own, passages seemed to go off in different directions and it seemed to me like more extensive workings than the one I had previously been in. So is there anyone on here active in the West of Scotland that fancies a newbie tagging along once all this lock down stuff is hopefully finished with?

I suggest you do nothing until the current crisis is over.

The finest workers in stone are not copper or steel tools, but the gentle touches of air and water working at their leisure with a liberal allowance of time.

Welcome !
A first good resouce would be the NLS mapping website :
https://maps.nls.uk/

A map nerd like me can lose hours on there ...

Where you can look through historical maps, side-by-side or overlaid with modern satellite imagery, and see if the adit or any associated workings are on there anywhere.

From a very quick look at the area, it seems to be mostly (if not all) ironstone, fireclay or coal in the area. Please, please be very careful, as the atmosphere in such old mines can be toxic or explosive.
However, I do see that, to the SouthWest of Kilwinning there does seem to have been a mineral railway that ran to the Ladyha' Colliery that went through a tunnel, so it could even be an old tunnel rather than a level.

Look forward to seeing some more details, pics, etc !

But I couldn't find any info on it on here. The only other mine I have been in was near New cumnock, I don't know if it is on here, I don't know what it was called, and it is not listed on the gsg page either, I only found out about it through word of mouth.

No, now is not the time to be doing anything anymore, it's like living in a disaster movie for real....
