The HSE Inspectorate will have a copy, try contacting them.

I had a look on the HSE web site, thinking they would have a pdf still available, but unfortunately not. If you are collecting booklets, that is of no help, but if it is just the information therein that you require, going to the hse.gov.uk web site and putting "quarries shotfirers" without the quotes in the search box will lead you to lots of information which may or may not tell you what you need. But you have probably done all that already.

The booklet may predate the web site, and never have been scanned in, but it is unfortunate that documents which people may still want to refer to do actually disappear. Regulations change and some junior person sees that it no longer applies and throws a box of them in the skip.

The HSE is as good as anyone else in that regard...

My experience is that you need to ask the relevant inspectorate inspector to scan the document for you.

If it's a book rather than a leaflet then there should have been a copy deposited with the British Library, might be worth trawling their online cataloge?

No, it isn't a book, its a leaflet close to today's A5 size, possibly 8" x 5", only 10 or 12 pages IIRC.

Issued to all employees to tell them the basic requirements of the 1954 Mines and Quarries Act. There was also "Workmen at Miscellaneous Mines", which I have somewhere. Must have been similar issued to coal miners as well.

More recent legislation means these books are useless, so no surprise they are out of print.

http://www.bl.uk/aboutus/legaldeposit/introduction/  does not mention leaflets. If they were "published" it would seem that one should have been deposited.

http://www.bl.uk/aboutus/legaldeposit/printedpubs/  lists certain exempted things, probably not this leaflet, but defines publishing.
Quote:

A work is said to have been published when copies of it are issued to the public. The place of publication or printing, the nature of the imprint and size of distribution are immaterial. It is the act of issuing or distributing to the public in the United Kingdom which renders a work liable for deposit.

Was the leaflet in question ever available to the public, e.g. in HMSO bookshops? If so, it seems to me that the British Library will indeed have a copy.

So I think it is worth checking with them.

I learned something useful about publishing today while looking this up.

Not sure if it helps but the 'book' appears to have 16 pages.

Edit: Not sure if this helps, seems you have to sign up for something.

Fairly certain that will be a scam site that claims to magically offer you whatever you search for.

I wouldn't recommend anyone signing up for anything, so link removed.

Agree. I suspect that all the links that pop up whilst searching that title are not what they appear. Amazon just states 'out of stock'

Hi Just a suggestion!
I have always, found if Amazon are out of stock and our contributor Moore Booke does not have a copy, then go along to your local library and ask for an interlibrary loan copy.
It will obviously cost you, but when you eventually receive a copy, you just scan every page and presto, you then have your own book!

Interestingly the first link says "not available at the National Archives".

I didn't think the National Archives are the same as the British Library, but maybe they are...

Try NEIMME library they certainly have all the old coal board ones.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
