My van got stolen and torched, which has been most inconvenient. Thankfully, as they chucked things out of the back (it was like a jumble sale in there) my Magnumstar Mega-Lamp was one of the items to not be nicked or torched.
Sadly, a lot of other stuff went up in smoke.
As I've said elsewhere, the Marjory adit system is very extensive. It is unclear whether certain workings were planned or actually undertaken. One thing which is certain is that the official abandonment plans are in 2 chunks. The latter chunk is focused on the seaside area around american shaft and the earlier chunk shows a lot more detail, including a detailed section showing 3 adit levels (above water) and a fair few shafts. The 1880 first series OS map was compiled after the whole lot had been obliterated.
The first chunk of the Marjory plans shows a lot of detail which can be accurately projected (as accurate as it was surveyed, anyway) onto modern mapping. This will overlay a whole load of previous workings on various structures, some of those with their own ancient and unrecorded features to add up to a complicated picture which should pose a cause for concern to developers....
Whilst the shafts were probably capped with granite lintles at depth and backfilled, you can never be sure how they did it. My gut feeling is that if you go poking around in there and do a bit of informed digging around certain areas (which will sort of reveal themselves to someone prone to hunches) you might find some shallow levels. Anyone with a digger is almost certainly to do so.
Getting in there via the deep adit should be a project that a load of locals do every week. It has the potential to be an amazing journey into the truth behind the detailed, if rather vague records.
