No coal miner but grandson of anthracite miner, a veteran of "Great Anthracite Strike" of 150,000 miners in 1902. Also married to coal miner's daughter. Have small collection of coal miner artifacts including carbide lamps, safety lamp, lunch/beer bucket, canary cage, breaker boy medal from UMWA's John Mitchell and wood carving of mine mule skinner. Looking forward to learning more about history of coal mining in the UK.

Thank you Roy! I grew up in the steel mills but never worked in the mines. Over here there is but one thing common to both coal miners and steel workers: Drinking one's beer with whiskey chasers.

I believe its a custom over here in some areas
