Hi folks I'm new to this. Can you advise where there are slate quarries/mines worth a visit in Pembrokeshire. There seem to be very few in the lists. Thanks

By no means an expert on Pembrokeshire. In fact have only visited one (The Blue Lagoon one).

However there is a book if you scroll to the bottom of this page:

Abereiddy/Blue Lagoon,
Cilgerran,
Glog,

Ones on the Preseli`s and the upper reaches of the Cleddau river,

The variation in colour was a selling point of Pembrokeshire slate, but not all attained the quality of North Wales slate.

Do a google search, you`ll be amazed of the number of slate quarries.

I have a book which lists pretty much all the slate mines in Wales. Trouble is, I'm at work and can't remember the name.

I suspect you mean A Gazeteer of Slate Quarries in Wales.

Same page, first one under 'Slate' (the HTML is a bit primitive on the site so I cannot provide direct links.

I suspect you are right. It's quite a useful little book and seems to be a bit more accurate than some of the pages on the Exeter link that I posted.

As Geraldus states, "The Slate Quarries of Pembrokeshire" by Alun John Richards covers almost all slate quarries in south west Wales. Available from Gwasg Carreg Gwalch. isbn:- 0-86381-484-0.

Abereiddi, Porthgain, Bellstone/Rosebush(popular with skinny dippers!!), and Glogue are probably the most obvious starting points.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
