In the opening page of Aditnow is the photo of these Double flanged dram wheel`s,and other photo`s you boy`s have taken of these,
As one does, thinking about something totally different, and my thought`s came back to Partin`s in the Colliery,of which i have layed so many and jimmed the turn rail`s i have lost count of the number, then i see the photo of these wheel`s,

Is there by any chance anybody has a good photo of a Partin that these double flanged wheel`s ran over, because the only way i can see them being used is if Turntables are used instead of partin`s.

The two single rails at a set of points each ended at an iron plate fixed on top of a wooden sleeper. Each plate was only a few inches long but the other end was wider and from it two rails started. So pushing a dram straight ahead was little problem, but to turn left (or right) you had to shift the dram bodily so that the leading pair of wheels skidded the necessary inch or two sideways to line up with the turning rails.

The crossing was a similar plate, the wheels rolling off the rail, running the few inches on their double flanges, then running onto the next length of rail.

The side edges of each plate were upturned to prevent you pushing the wheels too far sideways.

I know a picture would help but mine all date from the B.D. era (Before Digital).
Yes, I'll have it - what is it?

Thank you Simon for a full discriptive explanation,i imagined without a turntable that something similar would have been done,
Would i be right in thinking that these were done away with in favour of the single flanged wheels,to up production to save this faffing around,as a journey of single flanged wheel`s could be pulled out of a district through the partin without the necessary man handling of every dram crossing the partin.?

To remove a potential source of confusion, I should point out that the above-mentioned photos are by Dave Sallery, not me.

http://www.penmorfa.com/Slate/index.htm  is well worth looking at in its entirety.)
