Hi,

My name is Lynn and I'm interested in the mining that went on in the culross low valleyfield area. My father, now dead, worked in Torry mine but I can't seem to get any info on this. He did tell me that one chap that died there was crushed between two coal carts, but again can't get any info. Anybody shed some light on this. Also my gr grand dad was not sure how to put this, over see'er in some of the mines as well, his name was Robert henderson again can't find any info. Can someone help

Lynn

There's quite a bit more information on Michael Martin's excellent Fife Pits website, including a newspaper report on the fatal accident you mentioned.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
