I am researching my 3xGREAT Grandfather and his job description on the 1851 Census is:
BOSTON FOR COAL MINES for Earl of Lonsdale
I know the Earl of Lonsdale was the Mine Owner
but not what BOSTON OF COAL MINES means

Any ideas

I'm sure you can do your own googling, but old job titles like Bailiff and Beadle come to mind. Possibly some sort of agent or supervisor?

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
