Hello ,

I am new to the fourm . I am trying to source information relating to Darfield Main to enhance notes, documents and photographs passed on to me by my father, who worked there for 40 years and was the NUM Branch secretary from 1979 thorugh the miners strike .Can anyone help me please ?. My aim is to donate the documents etc to the Barnsley museum being opened in the town hall .
Many thanks

Lynne

How far back do you want to go with the history?

Any chance of PMing the link here too. I have the Mitchell family in my family tree and have been collecting info on their various mines (starting with Edmunds Main and Swaithe Main) etc. Unfortunately the disinherited Riley Mitchell is my ancestor so none of the family riches came our way!! Interesting history though and would be great to add to it.

I can remember your Dad getting on to me when i was a young apprentice for not wearing my pit helmet in the fitting shop. He was a good man we all had lots of respect for him, hope you found all the info you needed

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
