Hello all, i'm a long time lurker, I've had an interest the underground since a school trip to Hodge close many years ago. I'd like to get into mine exploring a little more, but a little hampered by the fact I've got a cheap solarforce torch and not much else. If anyone runs any underground trips, and doesn't mind clinger on? I'd love to come along. Cheers. Neil henderson 🙂

Hello there, Cumbria is well supported by mining heritage groups.

Take a look at the walks organized by the Keswick Mining Museum for starters.

If you want more than that, then look into MOLES mentioned at the bottom of that page.

Down the line if you want to get involved in digs and more advanced trips there www.catmhs.org.uk

cheers for that. I had a look round the mining museum and had a chat with Ian. He's like an encyclopedia, I'll be going on a few of his walks this year i think. 🙂

He certainly is, although i've never managed to leave the museum without emptying most of my wallet into the till so far. 🙂

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
