Hi all from Australia. I was born in Somercotes and raised in London but spent many happy holidays with my grandparents in Leamoor Avenue. Unfortunately it was during one of my holidays that my Grandfather, Wilfred Holmes, a miner at Cotes Park Colliery was killed whilst working underground. I have been trying to find a copy of newspaper cuttings from 1st May 1957 to pass on to my children and grandchildren but alas I cannot find anything. I have even contacted local newspapers in Derbyshire and London but nothing can be found. I distinctly remember his photo and story in the papers, so this is a mystery. All my family in UK have now passed on. I would appreciate any information. I know that he worked with his neighbour, Roger Smith. I hope someone over there can shed some light. I have now lived in Australia for 45 years and have two children and two grandchildren.
Merry Christmas to you all, and a very Happy New Year from Downunder! Kind regards, June

Hi June, I'd suggest getting in touch with Derbyshire County Council's Local Studies libraries in the first instance, either they or the Derbyshire Record Office should have local newspapers for the date in question.

Many thanks for the info. I will give it a try after Christmas.
