Hi, I am off to the Wanlockhead mining museum next week to look round and try panning for Gold. Does anyone know of any mines in the area that are accessable, or a good spot to try gold panning?

Hi Pam, there is a lot to be seen up there. The spoil heap at the Glencrieff mine is huge!! When we went to the mining museum we were told there were 137 mines in the area, and 1 was open. Can you guess which one?

The Lochnell mine at the museum of course!! I know for a fact there are open mines up there, but they totally denied it.

It is pretty good up there tho, worth a visit, just a shame they dont take you all the way into the mine ::)
