Hi folks,
I'm hoping to get some good trips organised for next year, we don't seem to have done too many this year- except for the Thursday Nighters! 😮

I'm open to suggestions of places folks want to go to, or offers to take a group round somewhere! :flowers:

And no, this doesn't have to be north-wales based!

So, any ideas of where you want trips to?

Another Wensleydale/Swaledale trip?

Yes Dave, absolutely.
An alternative idea I had for this year - not Wensleydale or Swaledale as it happens but same neck of the woods - would be Pikedaw & Buckden Gavel.

That would be fine by me.

I understand there are some nice .... er ... c***s around there as well! (Although of course we would carefully avoid those, wouldn't we.)

Never even crossed my mind.

Mind you, what with Mr RL off doing damp SRT trips on Thursday nights and the quazillions of photographs of formations he has on his website it seems to me that he'd be right at home were we to stumble into one!

Could do worse than base yourselves around the Matlock Bath / Wirksworth area.

Specific suggestions would be helpful- I haven't actually done much round there so I don't know where to suggest. :flowers:

Off the top of my head ; Devonshire Mine, Wapping / Cumberland, Goodluck (semi- show) Mine, Moorfurlong, Jacobs Dream, Jug Holes, Masson / Youds, Knotlow, Hillocks / Whalf.
Plus lots more that local folk on here could offer.

We've had trips in the Youds & Hillocks areas in recent years. Are the others just shortish walk in trips? Might be good for a quick Friday aft trip?

What about a Maskill/Oxlow exchange if there's interest in a Peak jaunt?

You could spend an hour or two in Devonshire, then wander over to Wapping and get lost in there, it is a very good example of mine cutting into natural, (mostly mine), come to that, so is Jug Holes.
All easily within reach of a base over Brassington way, Apparantly there is a pub over there that has a campsite, (Miners Arms?), never used it (never had to!), but I'm just trying to sell that area of the Derbyshire mine field that I feel has a lot more to offer.

Depends what you want out of a trip.
If you just want self guided trips, photo trips or SRT.
For photos try the Chert Mines at Bakewell a few hours walk
around, for SRT JH is a bit loose at the moment but Hillocks
Knotlow, get the key and Water Icicle new stuff is worth looking at " yes its a cave but the miners bin there."
Masson thru the opencast while its still open and Jugholes
thru trip is worth a look at.
Wapping Mine is a good scramble and good for photos.[It might be worth getting a local guide.center]

If people want to use the Miners at Winster as a base again there are some little-known possibilities within walking distance, which I might be able to sort permission for?

Good lads, I hoped you would come to my support,
Don't forget the coal mine surface remains within 10 miles.
The Cromford canal, and the geological wierdos at Crich and Ashover.

Sorry folks, absolutely no slate!! 😉

so, so far we've got suggestions for a Derbyshire weekend, and somewhere round the swaledale area.

I fancy a return trip to force crag, and i'm sure we can get a Moel fferna photography trip as well. Any other suggestions? How about the Bath Stone area?

If you don't ask for trips- you won't get 'em! 😮

How about a Coniston through trip?

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
